YOUR INITIAL VISIT Your first visit to the Clinic will typically last between 45 minutes to an hour long and consist of the following:
When you first arrive at the Clinic you will be asked to fill out a case history form which will include: a brief history of your health, and a detailed description of the present condition for which you are to be treated. Therapist/Patient Interview Your RMT will then show you to your treatment room where he/she will conduct an interview based on the information you have provided on the case history form, as well as any other information that is relevant. During this time, your condition will be assessed both subjectively and objectively and a treatment plan will be formed for your specific needs. During the interview your therapist may well conduct orthopedic assessment tests in order to help determine what may be causing your condition. The therapist will explain exactly how the treatment is going to progress. At this time, they will also answer any questions that you may have with regards to your visit to our Clinic or massage therapy in general. At the end of this interview, the RMT will leave the treatment room to allow you to disrobe and get on the massage table in private. It should be noted that you will only be asked to remove clothing around the area to be treated. Should you be uncomfortable with this, please inform the therapist and an alternative treatment method can be arranged. Treatment
Having assessed your condition, the RMT will start to treat you accordingly. A typical short duration treatment will last for about 25 minutes and will be a very specific treatment, addressing the referred condition. Treatment time can vary dependent on the amount of time needed to perform a correct treatment. Also, it will be dependent upon how long the treatment is booked for. There is a vast array of treatment modalities (techniques) that our RMT’s are trained in. For the most part, your treatment will comprise a combination of these skilled techniques. Homecare Hands-on massage is usually just one aspect of your treatment plan. In order to complement your massage treatment, you may well be given various homecare instructions. Homecare can be provided into two main categories: remedial exercise — this basically involves a variety of strengthening and/or stretching techniques that will aid in your recovery hydrotherapy — this involves the use of water in its various forms. For example, we may suggest the use an ice pack immediately after treatment to help limit any possible inflammation. Conversely, heat may be applied to help reduce tightness in a muscle group. Follow-up Having assessed and treated you for the first time, your RMT will now be able to form a more detailed treatment plan. It is likely that you will need to have a course of massage therapy treatments. This will be planned out by you and your therapist following your initial treatment. |
